One-third of the population of the UK are using tablets

Within the UK, 20 million people now use a tablet device on a monthly basis, according to a new report. This third includes individuals who own a tablet and use it at least once a month as well as individuals who share their tablet with other family members on a monthly basis.

It is predicted that by 2017 more than half of the UK population will use a tablet regularly. The increase of tablet usage is due to the increase of low-end tablet options which are available to the public. Many non-tablet users may feel reluctant to pay a high price for tablets such as the iPad, whereas there are many alternative options now available on the market including Tesco’s smaller-format Hudl which was launched in September which offers cheaper pricing options to boost the number of tablet users.

Figures show that around 59% of tablet users will use an iPad this year, and the growth rate for iPad users has been expected to be slightly higher than the figures from other available tablets on the market. Although, next year forecasts have shown that the growth rate for iPad users will drop to single digits and continue there through 2017.

Many people are moving to tablets rather than laptops or PCs as they are more efficient and easier to carry around. Tablets make it easier for users to go online and access documents rather than using your mobile device or a laptop. This preference could help boost the sales of tablets to current non-users.
