Children are now asking for technology for Christmas

Let’s face it children of this era are growing up in a technology based environment as they use technology at school and constantly see and hear of new technologies in the market, so it is not surprising that they want the latest gadgets for Christmas.

According to a study of children aged between 5 and 11 years, 78% of children in the UK asked for a tech present for Christmas this year. There were mixed views regarding this as some parents feel technology is too expensive to buy for their children and would rather buy presents aimed at their child’s age group. Parents have admitted that they gave in to the requests from their younger children mainly due to pressure in the playground from other parents. Recently the main talk has been around the latest tablets and consoles so parents feeling pressured into buying tablets for their children is not surprising.

Many schools even use tablets or laptops on a daily basis so parents felt it was reasonable for them to use this technology at home. Due to the schools teaching children how to use technology, parents have even noticed that their children can use tablets better than them as schools feel they should be taught how to use tablets and laptops as they live with this technology all around them. Rather than resisting the technology, parents should now accept it and encourage children to use it as this is what the future will consist of.

More adults are now allowing their toddlers to use tablet devices also as 61% of three year olds now play and learn using a tablet or computing device. A survey has shown that 21% of parents have even been asked by the school or nursery to purchase a tablet for their child.

So, are you one of those parents who you feel under pressure to buy a technology device for your child?
