So what is the forecast for tablets and PC’s in 2014?
Recently the sales of tablet devices have grown significantly in comparison to the current sales of PC’s. It has been said that tablets will not replace PC’s but will extend their life in the long term as over 90% of tablets that were purchased, are now owned by existing PC owners. This demonstrates that PC’s are not being thrown out when a tablet is purchased, but they are keeping both and using each device for different purposes.
A recent study regarding the usage of tablets and PC’s has shown that tablets were mostly used in the evenings, whereas PC’s were mainly used during the day time or working hours. These results show that tablets are generally used for more personal functionalities or when the user is on the move. PC’s are used most commonly for work related activities and kept in one place. The reasoning behind this could be due to the size of the devices; tablets are smaller and more practical to carry around, such as to take to work meetings or client sites, but PC’s are generally kept at home or in the work environment as they are not portable.
2013 showed a steep decline in PC sales but experts believe that 2014 could be the year that PC sales will rise once again. The logic that has gone into this theory is that the PC’s which are used today are around 4 years old, or maybe even older. Due to consumers continuously updating their tablets they may have not focused on refreshing their existing PC. Therefore, experts feel that consumers may have come to the realisation that their PC deserves an upgrade or a refresh so 2014 may be the year they decide to take action.
