What is happening on the 8th April 2014?
Have you heard that Microsoft’s Windows XP support will be ending on the 8th April 2014?
Microsoft is withdrawing support for Windows XP and Office 2003 so organisations currently running Windows XP will no longer receive any Windows updates, support or fix solutions. By not having support or fix solutions your systems will be open to malicious software attacks and potential system threats.
The end of Microsoft’s support does not mean that Windows will suddenly stop working, it means that you will not receive any future updates for the service. You can continue using your Windows XP machine but in order to prevent any security threats to your organisation you should upgrade your system to the latest version of Windows or purchase a new PC with a new OS.
Very few old PC’s will be able to run Windows 8.1. You should start by downloading and running ‘Windows Upgrade Assistant’ to check that your PC is able to meet the requirements for Windows 8.1, and then follow the steps to upgrade your PC. If your current PC cannot run Windows 8.1 then it may be time to consider purchasing a new PC altogether.
